The 6th International Theological Conference of the Institute of Consecrated Life in Africa had a grand opening ceremony attended by esteemed guests, including Cardinal Peter Ebere Okpaleke, the Catholic Bishop of Ekwulobia Diocese, Bishop Hilary Dachelem, the Catholic Bishop of Bauchi Diocese, CMF, Bishop Donatus Ogun, OSA and other priests, and religious leaders from various congregations.
The conference focused on the theme, "Formation for Authentic Mission in 21st Century African Church." Cardinal Peter Ebere Okpaleke delivered the keynote address. The assembly also had the privilege of receiving enlightening address notes from esteemed individuals, including VRF Dr. Peter Okonkwo, CMF, the Institute Director, VRF Jude Thaddeus Langeh, CMF, the President of African Claretian, Fr. Prof. Anthony Kanu, OSA, the President of the Conference of Major Superiors of Nigeria. There was a series of paper presentations from seasoned scholars such as His Lordship Most Rev. Donatus Ogun, OSA, who addressed "Formation and Communion of Goods" in the first presentation, followed by Rev. Sr. Veronica Openibo, SHCJ, on "The Mission and Responsibility of African Consecrated Persons in Global Catholicism" in the second presentation. Rev. Fr. Dr Idara Otu, MSP, contributed to the third paper presentation, exploring "Formation for Mission - Between Information and Performativity". The conference featured insightful group discussions with 27 congregations from across the nation.
The conference drew to a close with the presentation of the conference communique and a heartfelt closing address delivered by the ACLA President, VRF Jude Thaddeus Langeh, CMF. As we reflect upon the fruitful discussions and shared insights throughout the event, we offer our gratitude to God for guiding us to this point and pray He grants all participants a safe and peaceful journey back to their respective congregations, carrying with them the inspiration and knowledge gained during this meaningful gathering.
